Are We The Hypocrites We Despise?

Are You What You’re Looking For?
Have You Put Down Your Stones?

coffee-fellowship

Is it possible that although we attend church somewhat faithfully on Sundays, we’re not really living what we believe? Are we the hypocrites who know all the right things to say to sound religious but as much 50 percent of our lives we think, say and do whatever we feel like doing without any godly sorrow. Father in Jesus’ name, help us to never be stumbling stones to those who are looking for real answers for our troubled world. Help us to recognize our short comings faster than we see the flaws of others. Bless us to light up the world with Your love and kindness. Amen  Matt 15:7-9 Matt 23:13-33

In this season of life, we can’t afford to act like we got it all together when we really don’t. Others need to see and understand that being a believer in Jesus is not about being perfect but seeking the one who is perfect and allowing Him to teach you how to trust the way God processes your transformation as a child of God. Since we all have some struggles with this life of holiness, we should be able to relate with the struggles of others no matter how different they are. Imagine if you will that that struggle of yours which you consider a minor sin or mistake was one of those sins that you considered a major transgression, how would you want the body of Christ to treat you. We are called to be harmless.  What good is it to win an argument if you destroy the relationship and lose an opportunity to witness for Christ?

Are You What You’re Looking For?

Do you exemplify the love, mercy, forgiveness and patience you want to see in other believers and family members? As a child, do you honor and obey your parents the way you want to be honored and obeyed.

Mom and Dad would be ok if your kids use all the words that they hear come out of your mouth?

As an employee, As a boss, As a husband, As a wife, As a friend, As a Pastor, As a member, As a mom or dad are you giving a hundred percent or do you treat people like they don’t deserve your best?

Are you looking for encouragers but very seldom have an encouraging word for anyone?

Do you complain about people not speaking but refuse to speak first?

Do you want God and others to forgive you but have trouble forgiving others?

Do you want someone to make a positive difference in our world but you’re seating back, pointing fingers at church and waiting for someone else to do the work?

Do you recognize the growth in yourself and others?

Hypocrite – a judging under, like a performer acting under a mask (i.e. a theater-actor); (figuratively) a two-faced person; a “hypocrite,” whose profession does not match their practice – i.e. someone who “says one thing but does another.”

Do Not Judge

(Luke 6:37-42; Romans 14:1-12)

Matt 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye? 5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

6Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Message

7 1-5 “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

“Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege.

John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5NowMosesinthe lawcommandedus, that suchshould be stoned:butwhatsayestthou?6Thisthey said, temptinghim, thatthey might haveto accusehim.ButJesusstoopeddown, and with [his] fingerwroteonthe ground,[as though he heardthem not].7Sowhenthey continuedaskinghim,he lifted up himself, and saiduntothem,He that is without sinamong you,let himfirstcasta stoneather.8Andagainhe stoopeddown, and wroteonthe ground.9Andthey which heard[it],being convictedby[their own] conscience, went outone by one, beginningatthe eldest,[even] untothe last:andJesuswas leftalone, andthe womanstandinginthe midst.10WhenJesushad lifted up himself, andsawnonebutthe woman,he saidunto her,Woman, wherearethosethineaccusers?hathno mancondemnedthee?11She said,No man,Lord.AndJesussaidunto her,NeitherdoIcondemnthee:go,andsinno more.

Matt 15:1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, 2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. 5But ye say, Whosoever shall say to [his] father or [his] mother, [It is] a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 6And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7[Ye] hypocrites, welldidEsaiasprophesyofyou, saying,

15Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, FALSE witness, blasphemies: 20These are [the things] which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Called to be Harmless

Matt 10:16 Behold,Isendyouforthassheepinthe midstof wolves:be yethereforewiseasserpents, andharmlessasdoves. 17But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

A Call to Persevere

(Hebrews 10:19-39)

Now Unto Him

Jude 1:17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. 20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Message Bible

20-21 But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life!

22-23 Go easy on those who hesitate in the faith. Go after those who take the wrong way. Be tender with sinners, but not soft on sin. The sin itself stinks to high heaven.

24-25 And now to him who can keep you on your feet, standing tall in his bright presence, fresh and celebrating—to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Master, be glory, majesty, strength, and rule before all time, and now, and to the end of all time. Yes.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believethonhimisnotcondemned:buthe that believethnotis condemnedalready, becausehe hathnotbelievedinthe nameof the only begottenSonof God.19Andthisisthe condemnation, thatlightis comeintothe world,andmenloveddarknessratherthanlight,becausetheirdeedswereevil.20Forevery onethat doethevilhateththe light, neithercomethtothe light, lesthisdeedsshould be reproved.21Buthe that doethtruthcomethtothe light, thathisdeedsmay be made manifest, thatthey arewroughtinGod.

Phil 4:4Rejoice in the Lord alway: [and] again I say, Rejoice. 5Let your moderation be known unto all men. Think on These Things

8Finally,brethren,whatsoever thingsareTRUE,whatsoever things[are] honest, whatsoever things[are] just, whatsoever things[are] pure, whatsoever things[are] lovely, whatsoever things[are] of good report;if [there be] anyvirtue, andif [there be] anypraise, thinkon these things. 9Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Moderation – gentle, mild, forbearing, fair, reasonable, moderate. and hence, is true equity that appropriately fulfills the spirit (not just the letter) of the law.

Message

4-5 Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Knowing Christ is Above All

Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ, 9Andbe foundinhim, nothavingmine ownrighteousness, whichis ofthe law, butthat whichis throughthe faithof Christ, the righteousnesswhichis ofGodbyfaith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Press on Toward the Goal

12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13Brethren,Icountnotmyselfto have apprehended:but[this] one thing[I do], forgettingthose thingswhich are behind, andreaching forth unto{5734} those things which are before,14I presstowardthe markforthe prizeof the highcallingof GodinChristJesus.15Letus therefore,as many asbe perfect, bethusminded:andif in any thingye beotherwiseminded,Godshall revealeventhisunto you. 16Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

Phil 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6Being confidentof thisvery thing, thathe which hath beguna goodworkinyouwill perform[it] untilthe dayof JesusChrist:7Even asit ismeetfor meto thinkthisofyouall, becauseI haveyouinmyheart;inasmuch as bothinmybonds, andin the defenceandconfirmationof the gospel, yeallarepartakersof mygrace.8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. 9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment; 10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; 11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
